Mission: To promote quantitative analysis to inform sustainable development policy.

What does it do?
It coordinates networks to advance open source software, knowledge development and capacity building.

Who is involved?
Individuals from academia, research, and the development community engaged in the practice of supporting, directly or indirectly, sustainable development policies with evidence derived from modelling.

How is this done?
  • Communities of experts develop and disseminate open source modelling tools.
  • Academics and specialists provide reviews of modelling tools and develop teaching curricula to facilitate their use.
  • All Community members, and when applicable their institutions, partner in capacity building activities to train country analysts, while adding to knowledge.

Structure     
OpTIMUS is organized in three practices -modeling and capacity building for policy support, expert review and quality control, and software development- plus five established and emerging modelling tool networks.

Leadership 
OpTIMUS is coordinated by a secretariat led by two executive directors and is guided by a CONSULTATIVE BOARD lead by UNDP and UNDESA.

Annual Meeting 
OpTIMUS meets annually during an international high-level, teaching and experience transfer event it helps coordinate.
